On the summit of Mt Alfred, high above the valley floor, you’ll be standing atop the region’s best viewing platform. Out there is an enormous 360-degree panoramic space, filled with snow-capped peaks, braided rivers, lakes, and pristine rain forests. Below your feet is an intricate alpine wonderland waiting to be discovered.

En route the 3-hour ascent traverses the various vegetation bands of Mt Alfred. Passing mountain streams and waterfalls, open glades reveal spectacular alpine scenery and hint at the grand views from the summit. Once reached, there is plenty of time to explore the mountain top, capture images and video of the incredible views, then nestle between snow tussocks to enjoy a hot cup of tea and a hearty sandwich.

The 3-hour return journey retraces your steps to the valley below. With a refreshing drink in hand, it’s time to savour the moment and a great day in the mountains.
